Ice Climbing For Rock Climbers

Ice Climbing For Rock Climbers

For those of you who have rock climbed, indoors or out, know how to tie into the climbing rope, and how to belay. You'll learn crampon and Ice Axe use and how to move over a variety of steep frozen terrain. This course will get your gears moving and get you comfortable on the ice!

Women's Learn To Lead

Women's Learn To Lead

This is an advanced level course for experienced female climbers ready for the "sharp end." Participants will gain incredible skills and get individualized instruction from guest guides on how to lead ice. You will leave this two day clinic feeling comfortable and confident on lead!

Steep Ice

Steep Ice

Take your ice climbing skills to the next level. Learn how to move smoothly, without getting pumped! Vertical ice takes on many forms: mushrooms, bulges, cauliflower, candlesticks, chandeliers, pillars, curtains, smears, and flows. Brittle or punky ice, blue or yellow— it takes imagination and experience to move efficiently and confidently on this awe-inspiring terrain.

Silent Auction

The annual silent auction, a mainstay of Ice Fest, is online to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to participate. Items for the silent auction will be featured during Ice Fest weekend on the second floor of International Mountain Equipment at 2733 White Mountain Highway in downtown North Conway. All proceeds benefit our local crag stewards, Friends of the Ledges. Bid high and bid often!

Friday & Saturday Evening Shows

A hallmark of the Mt. Washington Valley Ice Fest, the evening slideshows not only give us an opportunity to connect with old friends, and meet new ones ... but we all get inspired by the stories of the trials, tribulations, and badassery of notable climbers.

Socials

From art, yoga and live music to workshops, gear demos and inspiring presentations, social events keep the stoke alive both on and off the ice. Plus, delicious food and beer! Connect with fellow climbers, learn something new, and celebrate the community that makes this festival so unique.

Workshops & Wellness

Off-the-ice activities are designed to educate, restore, and inspire all weekend long. Educational workshops, free and open to the public, are led by local and visiting experts. Yoga and massage will help you recharge between climbs. Sharpen your skills and explore new ideas!

Lodging

Our lodging partners offer comfort, convenience, and special rates—so you can stay close, sleep well, and hit the ice ready to climb.

👋Welcome to MWV Ice Fest, @lindlaukevin

Kevin Lindlau is a leading American mixed climber who has competed internationally since 2016. A regular member of the USA Ice Climbing Team, he made history as the first American to reach Lead Finals at a World Cup event. His results include multiple North American titles and strong finishes at World Championships and European Cups. An elite drytooler, Kevin became the first American and only the second climber in the world to send a D16 route, helping set a new benchmark for the sport. His ascents in Italy include A Line Above the Sky (D15) and several other high-end routes. Based in Bozeman, Montana, Kevin trains year-round and is passionate about growing the mixed climbing community, especially among youth athletes. Off the wall, he’s often juggling ice tools or enjoying a good cup of coffee.

👋Welcome back and Happy Birthday @mgclimber1 🎂

If you're looking for the definition of an all-around climber, Marcus Garcia may very well be your man. From an impressive list of more than 200 routes put up all over the US and Mexico to a spot on the UIAA board pushing to bring mixed climbing to the Winter Olympics, Marcus' ambitions don't stop at "simply" projecting a new difficult line. As his climbing career has evolved, Marcus's commitment to the climbing world goes beyond establishing hardcore 5.13 trad routes. A lot of the youth he has mentored are now mentoring future climbers.

📽️Saturday Evening Presentation:
Beyond The Climb by Kevin Lindlau & Marcus Garcia

A keynote presentation, film, and conversation with @lindlaukevin and @mgclimber1 , exploring the quiet poetry of mentorship in climbing.

Kevin began climbing under Marcus’s guidance twelve years ago, a partnership that grew from instruction into shared vision. From the U.S. to Bosnia and Herzegovina, they carve new drytool and mixed routes while shaping mentorship for the next generation. Kevin went on to become the first U.S. male athlete to reach a World Cup Finals and has since climbed some of the hardest drytool routes in the world.

This is a story of connection, courage, and echoes that carry far beyond the climb.

📽️Friday Evening Presentation:
Rebuilt, Still Climbing by @jimewing

A lifetime of climbing rarely unfolds in a straight line. This presentation explores what it means to continue when the original path—and even the original body—has changed. Rather than focusing on “bouncing back,” Rebuilt, Still Climbing tells a story of rebuilding, adaptation, and intentional redesign.

Drawing on lived experience as both a climber and an engineer, Jim Ewing reframes resilience not as a return to what once was, but as the creative process of reimagining what comes next. When familiar systems no longer work, new ones must be built—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Through reflection, practical insight, and personal narrative, Jim invites participants to consider how they respond to disruption, injury, or major change. It offers a grounded perspective on navigating loss, embracing limitation, and cultivating forward momentum when the old framework is gone.

Rebuilt, Still Climbing is ultimately about continuing the ascent—by redesigning from the inside out, honoring the process of change, and discovering strength in adaptation.

Officially founded in 1932, MWOBS has been observing, researching, and educating the public about weather, climate, and the mountain environment for nearly a century. On this two-day trip, you will ascend Mt Washington via the Lion's Head Winter Route, receive an educational tour of the observatory, have the unique opportunity to watch the sun set and rise from the warmth of the summit building, and then descend the same route. Although you have most of the day to make the summit and return, this is still a physically demanding hike. Please call with any questions.

🗓️Want to join, but have FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) about the rest of the Ice Fest fun? Don't worry! This trip ascends Mt Washington on Thursday and descends on Friday, so you'll have the whole rest of the weekend to join in on the festivities or even take another clinic.

🗻Mt. Washington. The highest peak in the northeast, yet a "small" mountain by elevation standards, it lies at the intersection of three major storm tracks and is known as the home of the "world's worst weather." Mt. Washington prominence, geography, and notorious winds make it a very challenging winter ascent. Our guides will lead you safely from the valley towards the alpine zone with a goal to reach the 6,288 foot peak. Conditions above timberline can be as serious as any mountain in the world. As we ascend we will discuss general mountaineering skills, winter navigation and we will practice basic crampon and ice axe skills. No previous mountaineering experience is required. However, participants should be physically prepared and well equipped for a rigorous all-day experience.

SAVE THE DATE!
📆February 5th - 8th 2026

💥We are so excited for the 33rd annual MWV Ice Fest, brought to you by @climb_imcs and @ime_northconway with support from headlining sponsors, @arcteryx & @blackdiamond

🤯No, that isn't a typo on the dates. We just wanted to spend more time with you all. We figured that the only way we could have more fun at Ice Fest was to make it longer. This year, we will have clinics on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If our calculations are correct, by adding a 4th day, this year's Ice Fest will be 4 times more fun than ever before (no need to check that math. Just trust us).

⚡️Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more info.

Ice Fest Beta!

There is a ton of info here so please take a minute to read through and save this post so you can find it easily.

Parking in the designated areas is key. DO NOT Parking on Town Hall Rd. You will be ticketed/towed. Do Not block any driveways.

Registration will look a bit different this year. Instead of a packet of paper, you will receive a festival pass.

There are a lot of sponsors with demo gear. We'll have some gear gurus to help you find the right gear for your clinic.

Look for the sign with your clinic name on it. Once all clinic participants have arrived and been outfitted, your guides will go over the plan for the day.

Please don't lose your Festival Pass or your Food Tickets.

Check out our website for a more detailed schedule.

We are so excited to see you all this weekend!
