Mount Washington Valley Ice Fest

The premier ice climbing event in the northeast for over 30 years!

February 5-8, 2026

North Conway, New Hampshire

Clinics & Guided Climbs

If you've never been on belay, or if you don't even know what that means—to advanced mixed climbing and mountaineering clinics—we have something for everyone. Led by professional athletes, certified guides, and seasoned veteran climbers, clinics and guided climbs will help you broaden and develop your climbing skills. Guides hail from around North America and the Northeast region especially. If you don't know what's the best clinics for you, feel free to call!

Ice Climbing For Rock Climbers

Ice Climbing For Rock Climbers

For those of you who have rock climbed, indoors or out, know how to tie into the climbing rope, and how to belay. You'll learn crampon and Ice Axe use and how to move over a variety of steep frozen terrain. This course will get your gears moving and get you comfortable on the ice!

Women's Learn To Lead

Women's Learn To Lead

This is an advanced level course for experienced female climbers ready for the "sharp end." Participants will gain incredible skills and get individualized instruction from guest guides on how to lead ice. You will leave this two day clinic feeling comfortable and confident on lead!

Steep Ice

Steep Ice

Take your ice climbing skills to the next level. Learn how to move smoothly, without getting pumped! Vertical ice takes on many forms: mushrooms, bulges, cauliflower, candlesticks, chandeliers, pillars, curtains, smears, and flows. Brittle or punky ice, blue or yellow— it takes imagination and experience to move efficiently and confidently on this awe-inspiring terrain.

Silent Auction

The annual silent auction, a mainstay of Ice Fest, is online to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to participate. Items for the silent auction will be featured during Ice Fest weekend on the second floor of International Mountain Equipment at 2733 White Mountain Highway in downtown North Conway. All proceeds benefit our local crag stewards, Friends of the Ledges. Bid high and bid often!

Friday & Saturday Evening Shows

A hallmark of the Mt. Washington Valley Ice Fest, the evening slideshows not only give us an opportunity to connect with old friends, and meet new ones ... but we all get inspired by the stories of the trials, tribulations, and badassery of notable climbers.

Socials

From art, yoga and live music to workshops, gear demos and inspiring presentations, social events keep the stoke alive both on and off the ice. Plus, delicious food and beer! Connect with fellow climbers, learn something new, and celebrate the community that makes this festival so unique.

Workshops & Wellness

Off-the-ice activities are designed to educate, restore, and inspire all weekend long. Educational workshops, free and open to the public, are led by local and visiting experts. Yoga and massage will help you recharge between climbs. Sharpen your skills and explore new ideas!

Lodging

Our lodging partners offer comfort, convenience, and special rates—so you can stay close, sleep well, and hit the ice ready to climb.

💭Did the frosty mornings this weekend have you dreaming about ice climbing? Us too! Were those dreams about Ice Fest? Same!

💬That got us thinking, what part of Ice Fest are YOU most excited about? Tell us in the comments!

SAVE THE DATE!
📆February 5th - 8th 2026

💥We are so excited for the 33rd annual MWV Ice Fest, brought to you by @climb_imcs and @ime_northconway with support from headlining sponsors, @arcteryx & @blackdiamond

🤯No, that isn't a typo on the dates. We just wanted to spend more time with you all. We figured that the only way we could have more fun at Ice Fest was to make it longer. This year, we will have clinics on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If our calculations are correct, by adding a 4th day, this year's Ice Fest will be 4 times more fun than ever before (no need to check that math. Just trust us).

⚡️Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more info.

Ice Fest Beta!

There is a ton of info here so please take a minute to read through and save this post so you can find it easily.

Parking in the designated areas is key. DO NOT Parking on Town Hall Rd. You will be ticketed/towed. Do Not block any driveways.

Registration will look a bit different this year. Instead of a packet of paper, you will receive a festival pass.

There are a lot of sponsors with demo gear. We'll have some gear gurus to help you find the right gear for your clinic.

Look for the sign with your clinic name on it. Once all clinic participants have arrived and been outfitted, your guides will go over the plan for the day.

Please don't lose your Festival Pass or your Food Tickets.

 Check out our website for a more detailed schedule.

We are so excited to see you all this weekend!

👋Meet the MWV Ice Fest Guest Guides

Aaron Mulkey
@coldfear
@blackdiamond

The odds that the term “pioneer” finds its way into any description of Aaron Mulkey are better than even. After all, his nearly 30-year quest to discover unclimbed ice – both in his Wyoming backyard and across the globe – has yielded no shortage of exploratory adventure.

Epic after frigid wilderness epic, Mulkey has deftly balanced his extensive pursuit of first ascents with a high-level executive position in corporate America. He’s as comfortable in the boardroom as on the sharp end of a frozen rope. But developing two independent and often opposing skillsets and practicing both at the pinnacle of performance hasn’t come easily. It’s been a fight for survival, both literally and figuratively, on numerous occasions.

In this current age of carefully curated Instagram reels (#vanlife) and the ubiquitous inspiration to “quit my job and selling everything to chase the dream,” it’s rare for the spotlight to land on someone who, while incredibly talented, balances their passion with the seemingly mundane, day-to-day responsibilities that we can all relate to. Aaron Mulkey has figured it out.

Marcus Garcia

@camp_usa

If you’re looking for the definition of an all-around climber, Marcus Garcia may very well be your man. From an impressive list of more than 200 routes put up all over the US and Mexico to a spot on the UIAA board pushing to bring mixed climbing to the Winter Olympic Games, Marcus’ ambitions don’t stop at “simply” projecting a new, difficult line. As his climbing career has evolved, he finds himself undertaking a new era mentorship. Marcus’s commitment to the climbing world goes beyond establishing hardcore 5.13 trad routes. A lot of the youth he has mentored are now mentoring future climbers.

Ian Welsted
@ianwelsted
@rab.equipment

An accomplished Canadian climber with a long list of first ascents, climbs on 5 continents, and a Piolets D’or, Ian has explored and experienced mountains as in his wildest dreams. More and more with the passing of years, the friendships that were formed and the memories that were made in the mountains are more important than any summit.

In the Canadian Rockies 100 day ice seasons, an early solo of Mount Robson’s Emperor Ridge and a series of first ascents built his repertoire, which led to trips to the greater ranges of Asia. Lately his attention has focused on the most obvious and impressive possibilities: long technical routes through massifs that involve the climber in a deeper sense of adventure. Most recently he is also enjoying growing his guide business from his hometown of Golden BC., helping others to achieve their own goals and adventures in the mountains and creating new memories and friendships of their own.

Kelsey Rex
@kelsey_rex
@lasportivana
@blueiceclimbing

Kelsey fell in love with the therapeutic aspects of climbing in early 2017, shortly after returning home from service in the US Peace Corps in Malawi. Since then, she’s done all that she can to make climbing as much a part of her life as possible, which included moving from a “9-5” lifestyle in Portland, Maine to working in a climbing shop (International Mountain Equipment!) in North Conway, New Hampshire. She excitedly accumulated multiple years worth of mileage climbing outside, in all seasons, nearly every day, and became especially fond of winter climbing.

Nowadays, she can be found guiding ice and mountaineering courses in winter for Cathedral Mountain Guides and guiding alpine rock in the Teton Range for Jackson Hole Mountain Guides in the summer. Kelsey is an AMGA Apprentice Alpine Guide, Apprentice Rock Guide, and Ice Instructor Course Graduate. When she’s not climbing or guiding, Kelsey enjoys spending time with friends, serving dinner shifts over at Flatbread Co., big days trail running in the White Mountains and snuggling with her black cat, Taco. 🌮🐈‍⬛.

JC is a Canmore-based climber who began swinging ice tools in the late eighties. An ice and mixed climber at heart, he has been known to occasionally swap out the alpine boots and crampons for comp boots. He has a never-ending lust for adventure. When the ice disappears, he can be found on the crumbly limestone of the Canadian Rockies, developing new rock or dry-tooling routes for others to enjoy.

📸Climbing Photography & Rigging Workshop
Saturday & Sunday

A 2-day workshop to build and refine your climbing photography skills.

With Guides @klementovich & @tatum_samuel.jpg

Day 1 (Indoors): Dive into composition techniques, rigging fundamentals, and creative storytelling. This session assumes you’re already familiar with shutter speed, aperture, and ISO—come ready to expand your creative approach.

Day 2 (Outdoors): Apply your skills in the field! Learn how to plan and set up the perfect shot, collaborate with “Talent,” and direct your vision while hanging from a rope. We’ll wrap up the weekend with a real ice shoot, ensuring you leave with stunning portfolio-worthy images (and some great ones for your mom).

Bring all of your camera gear and winter climbing equipment just like you were going to be out for a long day on the cliff or in the high mountains and belaying for a long time …

💥New Clinic❗

😱The Art of Bailing

🌨💨When bad weather rolls in, when the sun is setting, when the temperature drops, when something isn't going well, do you have the skills to bail? Whether you have dreams of climbing big routes or just sticking to the local crags, knowing how to bail is essential.

This clinic is perfect for climbers with experience on WI3+ terrain or moderate alpine routes who want to add a crucial skill to their repertoire. Participants should be familiar with basic climbing systems, including rappelling and anchor setups.

💥Learn to Lead (2 days)

🧗This is an advanced level course for experienced climbers ready for the “sharp end.” Participants will gain incredible skills and get individualized instruction from guest guides on how to lead ice.

Leading is very rewarding but can also be dangerous and scary if you are not prepared technically, physically and mentally. On the first day, we’ll cover advanced anchor & belay systems, racking of gear, rope management, and route finding while on a multi-pitch climb. Day two will deal with placing screws from awkward stances, using alternate protection systems, and focusing on protecting the climb, not the move. We will discuss advanced anchor & belay systems, single and double rope management, descending options and route finding while on multi-pitch climbs.

💥AIARE Level 1

🗻The level one is a 3 day (24 hour total) introduction to avalanche hazard management. The course is expected to:

Provide a basic understanding of avalanches
Describe a framework for decision making and risk management in avalanche terrain
Focus on identifying the right questions, rather than on providing “answers.”
Give lessons and exercises that are practically oriented, useful, and applicable in the field.
Learn how to use Mammut’s beacon system
Students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a trip, to understand basic decision making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught).

A final debrief includes a knowledge quiz to test student comprehension and to give feedback to instructors on instructional tools. Students are encouraged and counseled on how to apply the skills learned and told that no course can fully guarantee safety, either during or after course completion. A link is made to a future AIARE Level 2 course.
